Chad Hansen (smoooth vocals, acoustic guitar, songwriting) -
Chad was born to write songs that never leave your brain. He has an affinity for only playing in bands meant for success such as Mesa's October's First Hero opening for bands like Jimmy Eat World, The Juliana Theory & At the Drive-In. Even his independent projects quickly gained reputation among fans long after he stopped promoting them. Chad has been an aspiring rock star since his twelfth birthday when he strummed a guitar for the first time. He's always seemed to belong on stage either indulging in an acting career in high school or performing as a musician. Growing up in Mesa, Arizona, he watched the success of his favorite locals, Jimmy Eat World, which later became the driving model behind his songwriting: addictive, unique hooks… even more addictive lyrics. When he stumbled upon Maroon 5, he describes it as almost life changing. If you can get past his soothing voice, the two bands are easily recognizable as influences.
“Chad's voice is as smooth as silk...” -Ric Miller, Clear Channel Radio, SLC
Marc Hansen (electric guitar, screamer)
Marc has been seduced by music since childhood, buying his first tape in the third grade. After dropping the violin for guitar, he spent his teenage years studying rock bands like the Smashing Pumpkins, then oddly discovered a love for funk and blues as he matured. Like his older brother, Marc feels and writes music with a passion for catchy guitar riffs. There's no one else he'd write songs with than Chad because of their ease of creation and mesh together.
Zach Drury (bass, sex icon)
Chad describes Zach as the “baddest bass player on the planet”, and he means that in a good way. He's been classically trained on a stand-up bass since early teens, which this translates brilliantly to the bands sound. Viewed by the band as their young prodigy bass player, there's a standing joke that Zach hadn't listened to pop music with words until he met Mesa Drive. Seriously, he's known for spending entire summers learning to play everything by Jaco Pastorious. “We found Zach rockin his bass solo style at Mo's open mic night… I looked around at the crowd… their jaws wide open… looked back at Chad said dude… we need him. Zach was like ‘ya I'll play'” Marc Hansen
Jon Whitley (drums, heartbreaker)
Chad and Marc will admit that Jon joining the band was the best thing that has happened to Mesa Drive to date. He has multi-faceted skills, including both studio work and live drumming. Raised in a musical environment since birth, his only true goal in life has naturally been music. Jon's influences include everything from Nine Inch Nails to Motown. He had extensive training and experience including University of Utah's jazz ensembles, performing with Peter Brienholt and a long list of Salt Lake's finest local bands. He's the drummer that every band dreams about having.
